An introduction to The Bunn deBrett Quintet and BDQ Records

Stephen Bunn and Jon deBrett first collaborated together on the Acid Jazz Records project that became Mother Earth, piecing together with Eddie Piller the musicians and samples that made up the ‘Stoned Woman’ album. Some further musical forays followed but the pair eventually called time on the music industry sometime around the new millennium.

In 2019 at a Mother Earth gig at the 100 Club, Bunny & Jon decided it was time to make music together once more. The 2 subsequent Bunn deBrett Quintet albums explored the genre of spiritual jazz. These albums involved a truly international blend of musicians, with both albums receiving great critical acclaim.

Taking that initial success as inspiration, the logical step was to expand the BDQ concept and establish a record label that would allow them to develop other artists.

The collaborative focus is putting tunes they love on vinyl, 45s are mainly dedicated to Soul, Funk, 60s Jazz & RnB. Whilst the 12 inch imprint is for albums and other projects.
